The Guide

Meet Your Captain

My name is Justin Cook. I'm from Madisonville, Kentucky. I've been bowfishing for over a decade and currently serve as the Bowfishing Association of America's Vice President and Kentucky State Representative. I am an Insured USCG Licensed Captain and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Licensed Outfitter.

Over the years, I've competed in and hosted many bowfishing tournaments. Now, I'm turning my focus toward helping new people experience the sport and sharing my love for bowfishing with others.

Let me show you why Kentucky is known as the Bowfishing Capital as we chase invasive Asian carp and help clean up Kentucky's waterways one trip at a time.

On the Bow

What We Target

Rough and invasive fish that are legal to take by bow in Kentucky waters. Species and numbers shift with season and conditions.

Asian Carp & Gar

Invasive Asian carp — bighead, silver and grass — plus hard-fighting gar. Big targets that are tough on our waters and a blast to shoot.

Common, Buffalo & More

Common carp, bigmouth and smallmouth buffalo, and whatever else is legal and running.

The Run

How a Night Works

From the boat ramp to the last shot, here's how a Carp Control charter runs.

1

Book & Plan

Send a request with your dates and crew size. We confirm availability and lock your night on the water.

2

Meet at the Ramp

Roll up at dusk. We rig the bows, run a quick safety and technique brief, and push off as the light drops.

3

Under the Lights

We scan the waters, spot, draw, and let it fly.

4

Haul & Wrap

We handle and dispose of all the fish responsibly. Certain fish may be cleaned and taken home.

Good to Know

Frequently Asked

Do I need any experience?

Not at all. Most of our shooters are first-timers. Justin walks you through the gear and technique before you take your first shot.

What should I bring?

A valid Kentucky fishing license (buy yours online here), weather-appropriate clothes, closed-toe shoes, bug spray, and any snacks or drinks you'd like. We provide all bowfishing gear and bottled water.

What fish will we target?

Primarily Asian carp and gar, and any other rough fish we come across. Species and numbers vary by season and water conditions.

Is it safe for kids?

Yes. We have lighter bows for younger shooters and keep safety first all night. Children under the age of 12 will be required to wear a life vest at all times.

What happens to the fish?

Bowfishing targets invasive and rough fish that can't be legally released. We handle them responsibly. Some fish may be cleaned and taken home.

What if the weather is bad?

Safety comes first. If conditions won't cooperate, we'll work with you to reschedule for another night.
